Saltburn Primary School HeadStarters have had an amazing year, with the support of their teachers and the school as a whole
As well as a new cohort of pupils achieving their Bronze award and being well on their way to achieving their Silver, Year 6 pupils who have already achieved these have been working with us on a brilliant project that has benefitted Year 6 pupils in nearly every primary school in Redcar and Cleveland.
HeadStart and Saltburn Year 6 HeadStarters worked in collaboration with Huntcliff Year 8 HeadStarters to make a video about the questions they themselves have about the transition into secondary school. In the video, they ask these questions to the secondary HeadStarters who answer them in their own words.
Questions such as:
“What happens if I’m late to a lesson?”
“What if I forget my tie?”
“Are the teachers as nice as primary teachers?”
“What trips are there in secondary?”
“I’m worried about getting lost. How will I find my way around?”
The HeadStarters devised their own questions and delivered them brilliantly, showing how much confidence they have gained.
This video has been shown in every transition workshop we have delivered in Redcar and Cleveland (nearly 1000 pupils) and we have had really positive feedback, with many pupils stating that it has made them feel more confident and relaxed about going to secondary school, and has answered questions they themselves have been worried about.
The impact that the Saltburn HeadStarters have had is a credit to them and their school for supporting them in taking part in this, and these pupils will be receiving their Gold award for the fantastic work that they have done and the positive effect that this video has had on other Year 6 pupils across the area.
HeadStart would like to thank Saltburn Primary for agreeing to this video for the benefit of other pupils in the region, and the Saltburn HeadStarters for their fantastic work. A well deserved Gold Award is on it’s way!
