Modern life is busy and demanding and it’s easy to forget we are humans with basic needs and an integral part of looking after our own wellbeing is ensuring we are meeting our own needs! YOU matter!
During my school meetings I often hear that teachers/school staff haven’t had a drink or been to the loo since they left home in the morning! Our bodies and minds need to feel nourished so that we can feel good and can function well. And this can look like:
- Making sure you are hydrated (hydration in under-rated and serves many functions of body and mind!)
- How is your sleep hygiene? Good, restful sleep is essential for body and mind recovery.
- Have you moved your body today? This doesn’t have to take up a lot of time, a shake break with your class of 10 star jumps will do them and you good!
- Are you eating wholesome, nutritious food which nourishes you? We wouldn’t expect a car to run well on poor fuel so why do we do it to ourselves?
- Rest and relaxation is an important part of a wellbeing lifestyle, we are humans beings, not humans doings and our bodies and minds need some switch off time and rest.
In a world where there are many demands on us at work and home we would suggest a gentle approach, pick one thing that maybe isn’t feeling quite right for you and start there – small tweaks can have a big impact on your health and wellbeing.
