As we head into the last part of the academic year, the HeadStart team would like to give all the staff a nudge to keep remembering to nourish yourself.
All the seasons of the school year are busy, right? As we head into this last half term it can be easy to fall down your list of priorities again, to tell yourself you can just push through these next few weeks and then you have Summer vacation to recharge and do the fun stuff! But this is counter-intuitive and can leave us feeling burned out.
We are not denying that there is a job in hand that needs your attention in daily school life but we would encourage you to include consideration of your own needs and wellbeing at the same time. In the world of mental health, we know that looking after our wellbeing involves small daily actions that support us to feel good and be able to meet the demands on us. Healthy self -care equals having enough energy to meet those demands and also have some energy left for yourself and your life outside of work.
Considering your own needs and boundaries is not selfish, it’s essential! They are important components of mental wellbeing and personal care. At the same time, demonstrating that you value and care for yourself is good role modelling for the children and young people around us.
So our sprinkle of Ordinary Magic this fortnight is to encourage you to continue to schedule some time for you – an early night, a nature walk, exercise you enjoy, spending time with people who light you up….whatever makes you happy – do that!
