The Year 7 HeadStarters have done an inspiring and impactful job promoting wellbeing and community within the school! Their initiatives from designing an engaging quiz to organising drop-in activities with hot chocolates, showcase their dedication to fostering a positive environment.
‘I think the day went really well and there was a definite buzz in the coffee morning as pupils thought about the communities around them that support them. The Gold group being near the yard raised their profile and pupils were talking about having seen them throughout the day. Overall it was a really positive day’ – Mrs Hart (Mental Health Lead)
Their efforts to connect topics like mental health with school subjects and involve peers in meaningful activities demonstrate great leadership and creativity. Earning the Gold awards is well-deserved recognition of their hard work.
Looking ahead, their plans to train new HeadStarters and support incoming Year 7 students during transition workshops will help sustain this positive momentum. Their commitment to building a supportive and inclusive school community is truly commendable!
‘It really boosted my confidence in speaking out and it helped me to ignore the bad side and focus on the positive people because they are more good than bad in the world. Before the Mental Health Awareness promotion activity we did at break I was quite nervous and anxious but doing it I found that it wasn’t something to be scared of. I feel more confident to do more things like that in school again’.
– Francess
‘It has been really good learning how to communicate with people and supporting others. I enjoyed meeting people in the HeadStart group and expressing my feelings. It helped boost my confidence’. – Annie
‘A highlight of being in HeadStart was making and designing the Mental Health Awareness quiz. This is because I like quizzes’ – Daniel
‘Our year 7’s have been working hard towards Mental Health Awareness Week, they have been compiling an activity sheet for pupils to complete. HeadStarter’s have also been available to chat at break time to pupils’. – Mrs Hart (Mental health Lead)
