May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a great time to raise awareness about protecting our skin and recognising the early signs of skin cancer.
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, but the good news is that many cases are preventable. Most are linked to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or sunbeds. Simple steps such as wearing SPF 30+ sun cream, avoiding sunbeds and covering up outdoors can help reduce your risk.
It’s also important to get to know what’s normal for your skin and check it regularly. Spotting changes early can make treatment much more successful. Look out for anything new, changing, or unusual and if you have any concerns, contact your GP.
Taking small steps now can make a big difference to your long-term health.
