On Wednesday 18th February, HeadStarters from Ayresome Primary had the wonderful opportunity to visit ARC Art Centre to see their creative work professionally exhibited as part of the On The Edge, From Conversation to Creation project. Their artwork, focussed on empathy in our community, and was the result of thoughtful discussions that explored feelings, choices, kindness and safety. Seeing their ideas displayed in a public gallery was a proud moment for the pupils, reinforcing that their voices truly matter.
The visit also included a behind-the-scenes tour of the arts centre, where pupils met the dedicated team who bring community projects to life. The experience offered them an opportunity to strengthen their emotional literacy, build their confidence, and raise aspirations within the creative industry.
Prior to the exhibition, the HeadStarters led a workshop for Key Stage 2 pupils that focussed on empathy and the impact of risky choices. Through discussions, and activities, they gathered messages from their peers which influenced their artwork. These ideas, messages and drawings collected, shaped the final piece that is on public display at ARC until 27th March.
On the Edge has been funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland and Thirteen, as part of the Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence (CURV) Knife Crime Action Fund.
