My name is Niamh, I’m from Middlesbrough but I live in Leeds as I am currently studying for a degree in psychology at Leeds Trinity University.
I’ve been back in Middlesbrough for the past 2 weeks doing a work placement with HeadStart as part of my university course. I’ve attended lots of schools across Middlesborough and Redcar to see how HeadStart supports children, young people and teachers.
It was very strange visiting my old school, St Peter’s, and seeing that nothing has changed since I had been there. It has been lovely to see how engaged all the HeadStarters in each school are and how willing they are to make change to benefit wellbeing — keep up the good work!
During my 2 week placement, I have shadowed different members of the team and visited Westgarth, Beverley, Outwood Acklam, St Peter’s, Ings Farm, Kirkleatham Hall and St Claire’s. We did a session with the kids at Ings farm creating pocket sized zines to help them with exam stress, which was fun and interesting.
I’ve really enjoyed my 2 week placement and finding out all of the amazing work that goes on. Thank you Headstart.
