The team recently attended the Middlesbrough Transition Conference alongside colleagues in Middlesbrough Council to promote the offer that is available to support children and young people in their moves to secondary school.
It was a pleasure to be at the event to discuss how HeadStart support transition in the local area, hearing schools sharing best practice and listening to informative, engaging speakers throughout the event.
The HeadStart Transition Offer is available for all schools in the South Tees area to access. Year 6 support is offered during the summer term and Year 7 support is offered in the autumn term of the following academic year.
The offer is delivered on both a universal and targeted basis. The universal offer is an assembly or class-based session for the year group/classes with a focus on discussing some of the potential worries around moving school, myth busting and identifying how we can deal with some of those worries.
The targeted offer is for those CYP that school have identified as needing additional support with transition.
The targeted work has a further focus on addressing those worries, putting strategies in place to deal with the changes that come from moving school and how to access extra support/guidance at the child’s new school.
To access this support, please contact a member of the team (details below).

As part of the HeadStart Transition Offer, the team has been developing transition support videos with local schools to be used across the South Tees area. The video below was primarily produced for use by NPCAT (Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust) schools with students from Trinity Catholic College and St Bernadette’s RC Primary School. There will be further videos produced that are relevant for Middlesbrough/Redcar and Cleveland and other academy trusts.
