Our HeadStarters have been incredibly busy in the lead up to, and throughout, Mental Health Awareness Week, embracing this year’s theme of “Taking Action” for mental health.
Across our schools, young people have shown real leadership and creativity. They conducted thoughtful interviews, sharing honest conversations about what taking action looks like in their own lives. These powerful peer-led discussions have helped to normalise talking about mental health and encouraged others to reflect on their own wellbeing.
Groups have also channelled their ideas into creative outputs, producing impactful zines, artwork, and awareness campaigns. These have been displayed around schools to spark conversation, challenge stigma, and promote positive mental health messages. Importantly, many students shared the actions they personally commit to taking—from small daily habits to ways of supporting friends.
Alongside this, we’ve been proud to collaborate with the Public Health South Tees Young Voices group to co-produce a set of key messages for Mental Health Awareness Week. This partnership has ensured that young people’s voices are at the heart of the campaign, shaping authentic, relevant messages that truly resonate with their peers.
Last week has been a brilliant example of young people not only raising awareness, but actively leading change—showing that taking action can be creative, collaborative, and powerful.
