Hi my name is Carly I started working for HeadStart about 6 weeks ago. I previously worked in a Special Educational Need & Disability Base with children whose primary area of need is Autism as well as other complex needs. I loved my role and working with the children, I quickly realised how important promoting the children Mental Health and Well Being was linked to the children’s level of progress and their overall happiness in school. Which is what inspired me to join the fantastic HeadStart team.
Since starting I have been shadowing the incredible staff, while working with Julie we have attended many settings including Primary, Secondary and Specialist Schools. Julie has incredible working relationships with all of these settings, the children are so excited to be joining in her for all the different sessions. Such as HeadStarter’s the children are so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about promoting Mental Health and Well Being. It is such a fantastic thing to witness her engage with so many young people and professionals in such a positive and passionate way. Julies Super You Sessions at Kirkleatham were tailored to suit all the children meeting their individual needs so they could all feel included which was brilliant to see coming from my previous setting.
Gill has been so welcoming and her sessions at St. Bernadette’s, Beverly and St. Pius have been a pleasure to be a part of. Speaking to the students in Beverly Gill is calm and approachable she allows all the students to have their say and communicate their thoughts patiently.
I have been able to attend Prior Pursglove College with Andy the students were uplifting and refreshing being so passionate about making their campus a more welcoming friendly space for all students. Karen and I attended a SEND Family Voice event in Preparation for Adulthood it was fantastic to meet lots of other amazing services and speak to families and young people in the South Tees area to offer advice and support.
Overall, my short time at HeadStart has been filled with amazing experiences of children being engaged and eager to be a part of the HeadStart service. Aswell as the extremely welcoming team I feel privileged to be a part of and hope I can contribute to the already fantastic work being done by HeadStart across South Tees.
