A group of year 6 Ings Farm Primary School have been building their resilience by learning about journaling. Journaling is a useful wellbeing tool it can reduce stress, help manage emotions and give time for self-reflection. Fostering healthy habits like journaling builds self-esteem and confidence through creative outlets such as drawing or poetry. Giving space to express their emotions and thoughts in a alternate way, especially when it might be challenging to verbalise them.
The group were keen to show others what they had learnt and to support others by producing this short video. In the video the group share their page ideas that have helped them reflect on how they are feeling, reminded them of good things in their life and develop skills needed to cope.
This toolkit will empower them to navigate tricky situations in the future with more ease, understanding and compassion.
HeadStart support year 5 and 6 offering interventions that allow children and young people to build their resilience using the academic resilience framework and these journals embed many of the resilience tools. It is clear from their eagerness to share and inspire that these young people have learnt something valuable.
