The HeadStart team like to consider all the different ways we can support staff wellbeing. This week we’ve got learning in the spotlight. We all work in education right!? The foundations of learning and development; supporting young minds to learn, flourish and thrive in the world.
But how does learning feature in your life as a potential way to support your wellbeing? Staff CPD is great for professional development but are there other areas of life where learning could support you to feel better? Learning helps you to build confidence, self-esteem, self-efficacy and a sense of accomplishment and achievement – all good wins for wellbeing!
Learning is a core pillar of the Resilience Framework and also one of the five ways to wellbeing; it can provide purpose and enable us to be in our stretch zone leading to self-improvement. It also teaches us compassion and patience with ourselves, allowing us to start something new without being good at it but providing opportunity to develop that skill and allowing ourselves to be imperfect.
It could be learning a musical instrument, starting a new class, joining a sports team, learning a language, cooking a new recipe, taking up salsa dancing….anything is possible and will be a unique choice for everyone.
Not only can learning a new skill help you with your own sense of mastery and competence it can also improve your social network and increase resilience to act as a buffer against daily stressors.
Every day is a learning day!
